The Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services (formerly The Uganda Institute of Bankers) was established in 1990 as the training and certification body for the banking and financial services industry in Uganda. Prior to its incorporation as an autonomous entity (1967 – 1989), it had the status of a Local Centre of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, London (now London Institute of Banking & Finance).

The Institute through specialized training, certifications, and capacity-building programs, UIBFS supports individuals and institutions in enhancing their capabilities and contributing to the growth of Uganda’s financial system.

Among its core offerings are two highly sought-after programs designed to equip learners with the knowledge, skills, and credentials to excel in the dynamic world of finance:

1. Chartered Banker Programme (3-Level Qualification)

The Chartered Banker Programme is a structured, progressive qualification with three levels (Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3). It is tailored for banking professionals seeking to build or advance a career in the banking and financial sector with a strong foundation in theory, practice, and ethics.

Study Options & Fees:

• Online Instructor-Led or Evening Study

  • UGX 300,000 per subject (covers tuition & exams)

  • UGX 1,800,000 per semester (for 6 subjects)

• Self-Study Online

  • UGX 185,000 per subject

  • UGX 1,110,000 per semester (for 6 subjects)

• Annual Functional Fees: UGX 425,000

2. Diploma in Microfinance

The Diploma in Microfinance is designed for individuals working in or aspiring to join the microfinance sector. It provides essential knowledge in microfinance operations, customer engagement, credit management, and financial inclusion strategies.

Study Options & Fees:

• Online Instructor-Led: UGX 750,000 per semester

• Self-Study Online: UGX 600,000 per semester

• Annual Functional Fees: UGX 425,000
